Nox Medical sleep systems are thoughtfully designed for safe and hygienic operation, while providing high signal quality. The Nox Cannula and Nox RIP belts are single patient use only, reducing the risk of cross-infection and possible cross contamination if handled properly.
Below we highlight the main benefits of the Nox Cannula and Nox RIP Belts.
The Nox Cannula
The Nox Cannula is single patient use only and has a built-in hydrophobic filter (0.45 μm filtering capability) to protect the Nox T3 and Nox A1 recorders from moisture. Using the Nox Cannula with filter has been validated to give high-quality flow signal for use in diagnosis of sleep disordered breathing when used with the Nox recorders. The Nox Cannula is single use disposable and must be discarded after each use. To clean the Nox device and accessories after usage, please follow the cleaning instructions.
The Nox RIP Belts
Nox Medical’s systems include two RIP belts for each sleep study to help the specialist measure breathing effort during sleep. The Nox RIP Belts were developed to ensure accurate respiratory signal detection. The belts are single patient use only and are intended to be worn over clothing such as a T-shirt or a pajama and are thus not in contact with the patient.
As an additional, hygienic option, the Nox RIP belts may be used instead of the Cannula.
The AASM Manual for the Scoring of Sleep and Associated Events states that calibrated RIP flow could be used as a surrogate measure for flow when nasal pressure from the cannula is inadequate1.
The calibrated RIP flow derived from the Nox RIP belts can be used as a backup flow signal for the cannula in cases where the cannula drops out or, for some reason, patients cannot wear the cannula. In recent scientific papers2,3,4, the Nox RIP flow has been used as a surrogate to the main flow input (the cannula) for scoring respiratory events.

Looking at this information, users of Nox systems can be sure that the flow derived from the Nox RIP belts is accurate, as compared to the gold standard for flow.
